The business owners will be accompanied by Mayor Mike Purzycki and members of Wilmington City Council at each business for ribbon-cutting events this Friday, February 3, starting at 2pm at Hell’s Belles Bake Shop and 3pm at Delaware Center For Dance.

The owners and chefs of Hell’s Belles Bake Shop, Hannah and Stephanie, are excited to open in a location that has a rich history of bakeries on the West Side. They shared via a joint statement, “Since opening our doors in January, the community of Wilmington’s West Side has welcomed and supported Hell’s Belles Bake Shop.  We look forward to serving freshly made pastries and coffee to our new neighbors and all lovers of tasty treats! We aim to provide exceptional service and quality products, becoming one of the many must-stop destinations on Union Street.”

Just up the street, along the 800 block of Union Street, Delaware Center For Dance will bring vibrant energy to a newly renovated space through the art of dance. Owner Briana Hayman, a dancer, dance instructor, performer, and mentor with over 20 years of experience, expressed her excitement for this new location and grand opening: “We like to believe our love for dance led us right where we needed to be, on the West Side of Wilmington. Delaware Center For Dance could not be more thrilled to officially open our doors and begin shaping the lives of our community through dance and mentorship. By walking in our purpose, we plan to bring a love for the arts back to the city and create endless opportunities for our community and beyond. Wilmington, we’re ready for you!”

Union Street, a major focus of the West Side Revitalization Plan and the Citywide Comprehensive Plan, is slated for incremental streetscape enhancements, grant programs and technical support for small businesses owners. These efforts, led by Cornerstone West CDC with the support of the Office of the Mayor of Wilmington, will build momentum and new jobs in the community. “Small businesses are indispensable to Wilmington’s economic health and well-being,” said Mayor Mike Purzycki, “and we are always happy to welcome enthusiastic and enterprising small business owners to the City, especially into our many diverse neighborhoods.”

Delaware Center for Dance and Hell’s Belles Bake Shop hope to see many new and familiar faces at the ribbon-cutting events this Friday and beyond as these new businesses become anchor destinations on the West Side of Wilmington. For more information visit westsidegrows.org/small-businesses.
