New Egyptian Restaurant Brings Authentic Flavors to Wilmington's West Side

Spirit of the East Joins Growing Union Street Corridor with Grand Opening March 26

A new culinary destination is coming to Wilmington's West Side as Spirit of the East, an authentic Egyptian restaurant, celebrates its official grand opening on Thursday, March 26th, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at 416 N. Union Street. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks from Mayor John Carney, community leaders, and the restaurant's owner, Charif Shoukri, in addition to the chance to sample select menu items.

Spirit of the East brings the rich flavors of Egyptian cuisine to Wilmington, offering a menu inspired by traditional recipes and warm hospitality rooted in North African culinary culture. Guests can enjoy a variety of authentic dishes including falafel, shawarma, kofta, hawawshi, molokheya, and seafood specialties, alongside hearty platters served with rice and fresh salads.

Located in the heart of the Union Street corridor, Spirit of the East aims to provide a welcoming space where visitors can gather to enjoy traditional Egyptian cuisine and street food favorites alongside contemporary American dining options. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with both dine-in and takeout options available.

"Spirit of the East is about sharing the warmth, flavors, and hospitality of Egyptian culture with the Wilmington community," shares Charif. "We're excited to bring something unique to Union Street and to be part of the continued growth of the West Side."

Community members, business leaders, and media representatives are all welcome to attend and celebrate this exciting addition to Wilmington's West Side. Registration is strongly encouraged due to limited space, though not required. Attendees may register here to confirm their attendance.
